Job Description
Develop and implement comprehensive procurement strategies for large-scale construction projects, including sourcing materials, equipment, and services from both local and international suppliers
Lead the identification, selection, and management of overseas suppliers and subcontractors. Negotiate favorable terms, pricing, and delivery schedules while ensuring alignment with project requirements.
Oversee the logistics of importing materials and equipment from international suppliers, ensuring compliance with Australian import/export regulations, customs procedures, and delivery timelines.
Lead negotiations on procurement contracts, ensuring that terms and conditions reflect the best interests of the project while mitigating risks. Manage supplier performance, including ensuring timely deliveries and adherence to quality standards
Manage procurement budgets, track expenditures, and identify cost-saving opportunities. Continuously evaluate procurement costs and look for opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs without compromising quality.
Establish and maintain long-term relationships with key international suppliers and vendors. Develop performance metrics and conduct regular reviews to ensure high-quality service and product delivery.
Ensure compliance with Australian building codes, industry standards (such as the National Construction Code), and environmental regulations. Monitor and enforce adherence to safety and sustainability standards in all procurement activities.
Monitor the entire supply chain from order placement through to delivery, identifying potential bottlenecks or delays and taking proactive steps to ensure timely delivery of materials to the construction site.
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to understand project requirements and provide procurement solutions that meet their needs. Ensure clear communication between teams regarding procurement schedules and issues.
Conduct market research and trend analysis to identify the most cost-effective sourcing options, changes in international trade regulations, and potential risks. Stay updated on global material costs, availability, and supply chain dynamics
Lead and mentor the procurement team, providing guidance, training, and professional development. Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on meeting project deadlines and objectives.
Qualifications:
A minimum of 20 year(s) of working experience is required.
Candidates must be a Post Graduate Diploma / Master's Degree holder.
A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field. A Master's degree or professional certifications (e.g., CIPS - Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) is highly desirable.
At least 20 years of experience in procurement management within the building construction industry, with a strong focus on international sourcing and overseas procurement. Experience managing procurement for large-scale, complex construction project
Extensive experience in sourcing materials, machinery, and services from international suppliers, including negotiating contracts, managing logistics, and navigating international trade regulations
Strong understanding of construction materials, building technologies, and project specifications. Familiarity with construction project cycles, cost estimation, and procurement needs within the Australian construction industry.
Proven experience in managing and negotiating with international suppliers, managing vendor performance, and establishing long-term supplier relationships.
Expertise in coordinating the transportation, customs clearance, and delivery of goods internationally, ensuring compliance with Australian customs and import/export regulations.
Strong financial acumen, with the ability to manage budgets, track procurement expenses, and implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining quality and schedule.
In-depth knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC), Australian Standards (AS/NZS), and relevant international standards for construction materials and suppliers.
Proficiency in procurement and project management software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Procore, Microsoft Project, NEXUS SYSTEM), along with a good understanding of supply chain management tools and systems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both local and international stakeholders, including suppliers, contractors, and senior management.
Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and mentor a team of procurement professionals to achieve project and organizational goals.
Familiarity with global construction markets and experience managing procurement in emerging markets.
Fluency in language (English), especially those relevant to key supplier regions China, Asians, and Australasia Regions.
Experience with sustainable sourcing and the ability to source environmentally friendly materials for construction projects.
Familiarity with Building Information Modelling (BIM) and its integration with procurement processes.
Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Proactive, with a strong focus on continuous improvement and cost management.
Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to secure the best terms and prices for the company.
Culturally aware, with the ability to build strong relationships with international suppliers and navigate cross-cultural challenges.
