GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Business Development Manager is responsible for the research and development of new products (agricultural machinery and inputs, food processing, etc.) and new business opportunities in both agricultural and non-agricultural sectors. The main responsibility of a Business Development Manager is to manage, support, and supervise the Business Development Department.
Moreover, this position provides support to the management by researching and evaluating potential new products and new business opportunities, preparing business model, feasibility study, business plans for implementation, and monitoring and formulation of business strategies and recommended action plans for improvement and growth of implemented new products and new businesses.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
New Business and Product Research, Development, Planning, and Implementation
Researches and identifies new business opportunities - including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, products, and services - or new ways of reaching existing markets
Prepares market studies, feasibility studies, and business plans for new products and new projects shortlisted by top management.
Conducts further research on potential new products and new businesses that have been selected by top management and develops business models thereof.
Works strategically and carries out necessary planning in order to implement operational changes
Monitors status of new products and new businesses that have been implemented conducts analyses, and makes recommendations for improvement and growth, as needed
Liaises with the finance team, warehousing, and logistics departments as appropriate
Business Strategy, Planning, and Budgeting
For new products and new businesses approved by top management for implementation, coordinates with the Marketing Department for the preparation of the 6Ps and Launch Plan.
Prepares the BDD’s Annual Business Plan and Budget and the semi-annual updates thereof and as required by management.
Monitors actual performance of the BDD versus targets and budgets, and prepares status reports thereof as required by management
People Management
Enables and trains team members - arrange internal and external training as necessary
Monitors and evaluates the performance of and trains subordinates as per HR and management protocols and makes recommendations thereof.
Takes the initiative to attend seminars, conferences, and events where appropriate
JOB QUALIFICATION
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
MBA degree holder, with an undergraduate degree in a business course, preferably in Agriculture and/or Agribusiness.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
At least 5 years of work experience in new products and new business development, planning, and execution. Industry experience from an agribusiness environment or food processing is a plus. With Financial Analysis experience.
